Kelsey Beynnon Named MAAC Player of the Week
EDISON, N.J. – Marist women’s basketball junior forward Kelsey Beynnon (Burlington, Vt.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the league. The honor recognizes her performances this past week on Marist’s trip to Buffalo.
Beynnon played a huge role in the Red Foxes 2-0 weekend, averaging 17.0 points and shooting 66.7% from the floor and 62.5% from three-point range, helping Marist clinch the #1 seed in Springfield. She blew past her career high on Friday scoring a game-high 26 points, which is also a season-high for Marist, in the Red Foxes 81-52 victory over Canisius. She played just 27 minutes in the game and set also set career-highs with 10 made field goals and hit four shots from downtown. Overall, Beynnon shot 10-12 from the floor and was a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. She also added two steals in helping the defense hold Canisius scoreless over the first seven and a half minutes of the game. In Marist’s thrilling double-overtime win over Niagara on Sunday, Beynnon scored six of her points in the overtime sessions, including a huge three-pointer in the second overtime that game the Red Foxes a lead they would not relinquish. She also added four rebounds, a block and a steal in a career-high 35 minutes.
It is the first career weekly award for Beynnon and fifth overall for the Red Foxes this season. Senior guard Corielle Yarde (Reading,Pa.) earned Player of the Week honors three times earlier this season and freshman Natalie Gomez (Andover, Mass.) was named Co-Rookie of the Week as well back in December.
The Red Foxes conclude their regular season with two games this week. The Red Foxes will host Iona on Thursday at 6 p.m. It is the team’s Senior Day as the Red Foxes will honor their five seniors prior to the game. It is also the National MAAC Game of the Week and will be broadcast on ESPN3. The Red Foxes will play their final game on Sunday at Loyola.
