Chavaughn Lewis Named MAAC Co-Rookie of the Week
EDISON, N.J. – In the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s player of the week awards, freshman guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) was named Co-Rookie of the Week in recognition of his play versus Loyola and Maine this past week. He is co-honoree with Siena’s Evan Hymes.
In his third week in the starting lineup, Lewis continued to settle in as one of Marist’s top offensive threats in its two games this week. The freshman guard notched his 13th and 14th consecutive games in double figures with 12 and 24 point games over the Greyhounds and Black Bears, respectively. His game versus Maine was especially noteworthy as he registered career-highs in points, rebounds with nine and assists with five. For the week, Lewis averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting .519 (14-27) from the field and .400 (2-5) from three point range.
This is his third career MAAC weekly award as he earned honors for the week of Nov. 28 and Feb. 6. Overall, his three Rookie of the Week awards are the second-most in the league this season.
The Red Foxes (11-17, 5-11 MAAC) will next be in action on Thursday, Feb. 23 when they host Siena at the McCann Arena. The second game of a Women’s/Men’s ESPN3 doubleheader is scheduled for a 9 p.m. tipoff.
